 Notes for League Finals

  1. All games, home and away will be decided by a coin toss at the plate at the start of all games.  ***The higher seeded team will be responsible for setting up the bases if required.
  2. Each team is required to supply 1 game ball each.
  3. All umpire fees for playoff games are included in your GEMSA registration. No payment to umpires at the plate is required.
  4. Both teams are to text a photo of the completed game sheet to (780) 777-8726 following their games. Ensure team names, division, and categories are visible. This needs to be sent within 15 minutes of the game completion.
  5. MVP Awards - After every game, 1 player from each team is chosen for the player of the game/heart and hustle award by their coaching staff and awarded by the other teams coach.
    1. Thursday games: submit the name of your MVP with your scores and have the player pick up their MVP at GEMSA Headquarters on Friday or Saturday.
    2. Friday games: Pick up your MVPs from Lede (for games being played at Lede, Elks, Aileen, Corinthia). you should have 3 for your guaranteed 3 games. as you play on, grab more from headquarters.  ***Calmar/Nisku games: please grab one from the tote in the dugout. Be respectful and grab one per game only. 
  6. The Umpire shortage will continue for some playoff games.
    1. U9's will not have umpires.
    2. U11 categories may not have umpire coverage until semi-final, and final games.
    3. Teams are reminded that in the event a registered umpire is not available, each team is to provide one volunteer umpire.

  8. U11 - U19 Game rules clarifications. All GEMSA rules are in effect with the addition of the below,
    1. U11 - U13 Bracket games, no new inning after 1 hr 20 mins.
    2. U11 - U13 Medal Games, no new inning after 1 hr 45 mins.
    3. U15 - U19 Bracket games, no new inning after 1 hr 30 mins.
    4. U15 - U19 Medal Games, no new inning after 2 hrs
    5. Softball Canada run ahead rule (FP 1.2.3) is in effect for all age categories: 15 runs after 3 innings, 10 runs after 4 innings, or 7 runs after 5 innings. Complete innings are played unless the home team scores the required number of runs while at bat. The run ahead rule is invoked when reached, regardless of any time limits. 
    6. If teams are tied after the time limit, international tiebreaker rule will be in effect with the additional rules. Last available runner starts at 2nd base. 
      1. 1st extra inning - start with no outs
      2. 2nd extra inning - start with 1 out
      3. 3rd extra inning - start with 2 outs
      4. If game is still tied after 3 extra innings, winner is decided by Coin toss.
    7. Umpires will keep the game moving, no delays will be tolerated. Umpires to declare the official start time to both teams and scorekeepers.
  9. U9 Game Rules Clarifications.    
    1. Base paths are 45', pitching distance is 30'.
    2. Coach pitch rules are in effect after the 4th player-pitched ball.
    3. The coach pitcher is to deliver the ball from the rubber. (Starting on the rubber, and one step towards home is permitted while delivering the pitch).
    4. No Stealing Bases or Home. Base advancement may continue on a hit - once the ball is brought back into the infield, runner advancement stops, advancement is not to occur on an overthrow.
      1. Example - ball is hit thru to left field, batter runs past 1st and makes it to 2nd, left field overthrows 3rd base, batter/runner must stop at 2nd
    5. No new inning after 1 hr for Bracket games, 1 hr 15 min for Medal Games.
    6. If teams are tied after the time limit, international tiebreaker rule will be in effect. Last available runner starts at 2nd base.
  10. Games will be hosted at 6 ball parks.

A few things to pass onto your families.

There will be a concession open at Lede park all day Saturday and again Sunday. 

There is limited parking in the main Parking lot at the Leduc rec centre. Please see attached map of Lede park and additional parking spaces.
