Formerly known as EYSA (Edmonton Youth Softball Association), GEMSA, or the Greater Edmonton Minor Softball Association, organizes recreational and competitive fastpitch softball league play for minor teams and associations in the greater Edmonton area and surrounding communities.
GEMSA is optimistic that a full schedule can be played in each division, but should government restrictions require alternate planning, GEMSA will undertake to schedule “cohorted” games, if required.
Softball Alberta recently shared this update below with members:
“Softball Alberta would like to reassure our members that we will continue to work closely with our sport consultants from the Government of Alberta to update you all as we continue on through the pandemic. We hope we can see everyone back on the diamond in a few months, but we will continue to adhere to the restrictions and guidelines set out by the Government of Alberta & AHS. Our Return to Play Committee will be reconvening shortly and as soon as we can resume softball activities we will update our members on how to safely do so.
Each association and league will be in control of when or if they resume play once softball activities can start up again. The 2021 Provincial Championships are still being planned & Softball Alberta will be exploring all options in order for these events to go ahead. Softball Alberta also remains in communication with Softball Canada & the Western Softball Association regarding post-provincial championships.”
